May is National Military Appreciation Month
May 1, 2010

This May is the 12th Annual National Military Appreciation Month. Here is the official website to commemorate the occasion.
http://www.nmam.org/
You'll find lots of good information on Military and Veterans organizations and supporters, as well as information on the month's events celebrating in honor of our military men and women and their long history of service to the U.S.A.
I will be adding to this post as I find more information.
But to start ...
One way to support our military and its veterans is to go to Pepsi Refresh Project and vote for the military/veterans projects that are currently up for a vote ... a vote from you ... the public. Just go to the search window on the PepsiRefresh home page and type in military, warrior, WWII, veteran, Iraq or Afghanistan and you will be led to projects whose goal is to help our military/veterans with a wide variety of needs. You can vote for up to 10 projects a day.
Wouldn't this be a wonderful way to say thank you to our Military by dedicating ourselves to casting 10 votes a day to help these groups win a grant of 250k, 50k, 25k or 5k.

Please take the time to vote ....

Against the wind ....
November 8, 2009
For those who lost their lives at Fort Hood ... may you rest in peace. God Bless and keep you.
Just a simple flag I caught blowing in the wind with the old camera . Many of the homes in my neighborhood display the Flag and as a mom of a Marine seeing this show of patriotism is very much like being held up by loving arms against the force of my own emotions. It comforts me ... it helps sustain me. Thank you to all who proudly fly the Colors in front of a grateful home. ~jeanne

Note #3/ Mother ... upon being/Marine Moms
perhaps if we hold on so tight
to each our smile
and laughter we laugh too loud
perhaps if we hug one more doubt
with arms that wrap round
old photographs and toads and baseball bats
we will stand unabashed
brazen
against the tide relinquished
form our own ebb and flow
perhaps if we kiss
each our cheek
we kiss the cheek of our sons marching

Dad sometime during WWII. Dad gave us all a Red Poppy every Veteran's Day. The one in the picture is the last one he gave me before he passed away.
My father-in-law ... sometime during WWII. Another Navy man! He and my dad had much to talk about.....
